2015 National Convention Wrap Up

American Culinary FederationACF News2015 National Convention Wrap Up

Hello Chefs!

As the dust settles from the convention, we’d like to tell you how well we did. In a word, the convention was terrific!

As the Convention Committee Chairperson, Roger Newell could not have asked for a more dependable, flexible, professional, and energetic team. Supporting a convention of this size really does require a village, and without a doubt, the village of ACF Central Florida Chapter was there. From day one, we were able to provide the National office with whatever support they needed.

The ACF/CFC Convention Team

Our chef and student volunteers, managed by Dawn Viola, CEC, went above and beyond to insure that we were successful – and they came from all over Central Florida, from Atlanta, and even from Charleston, SC. Not only did our chapter members and spouses give us 100%, but ACF members from other chapters just showed up, and asked, “What can we do to help?”

That shows the true heart of a Chef.

A special shout-out to our chapter tech specialist Bob Costello and to our board members who volunteered throughout the event: Marcus Herrington, CEC, Richard Cote, CEC, Nora Galdiano, CEC, AAC, Andrea Proisl CEPC, and Lynda Alfano.

To all volunteers, from the bottom of our hearts, “Thank You.”

Presenting check to the Student Team USA

Our 50/50 Raffle was a huge success. In five days, we raised almost $4500, with the winner receiving $2,200. Of couse the winner is from our chapter!  Congratulations John Westergaard CEC!  The ACF/CFC board agreed to round up our chapter’s contribution from the Raffle proceeds to Team USA and we were able to present them with a check for $5,000. Good luck, Chefs! We are with you all the way.

Chef Reimund with the Presidential Medallion

Our chapter was also well represented in recognitions. Congratulations to Chef Reimund Pitz, CEC, CCE, AAC, WCMC for receiving a Presidential Medallion. Christian Markussen, CEC represented us as the ACF SE Region Chef Educator of the Year and Rodrigo Nunez as the ACF SE Region Pastry Chef of the Year.

The new AAC Inductees

Personally speaking, it was truly a memorable convention for me as I was inducted into the American Academy of Chefs. Congratulations to our Chairman of the Board, Nora Galdiano for also being one of this year’s AAC inductees. It was a proud moment to have two chefs from our chapter honored in this way.

Once again, we give huge thanks to all the chefs, spouses, and student volunteers who gave up their time to ensure our success as convention hosts.

And we get to do it all again in 2017. See you there!
