Final Chapter President’s Message of 2016

Hello, Chefs!

My sincerest greetings to all of you as we begin another busy year for our chapter. I hope that each and everyone of you had a very safe and Happy Holiday season.

We began 2016 with a newly elected Board of Directors and a very full calendar. This provided quite a challenge for the board, but cooperation and teamwork produced a very successful year. Most of you are aware that the 2016 Culinary Arts Competition at the FRLA show was the last one that will be presented in that format. The Board, along with our show chair Steve Jayson, will be meeting in January to discuss putting together a different format that will not only attract the attendees at the show, but prove to be a profitable adventure. I will keep you informed as the details become available.

Our chapter received a surprise boost in membership last year when the Daytona Beach chapter was dissolved, and the chefs on its roster became members of the ACF Central Florida Chapter. We welcome all of you, and hope to see you at some of the meetings in 2017.

Heading toward the 2017 Southeast Regional Conference, I am proud to tell you that we have 3 Certified Chefs and one student chef getting prepared to compete for a spot at the National Conference. Chefs Elizabeth Wessman and Costa Magoulas are semi-finalists competing for Chef Educator of the Year; Chef Roberta Clare is a semi-finalist for the Chef Professional category, and Daniel Wernz is a semi-finalist competing for Student Chef of the Year. Let’s keep them all in our thoughts, and wish them the best of luck. The chapter has also submitted an application for Regional Chapter of the Year. At the time of this being published, we have not received any confirmation from the National Office as to who has been chosen — keep your fingers crossed. I want to personally thank Lynda Alfano for all her hard work in presenting our application. A lot of hard work and time goes into the application — so Lynda, thank you for all your hard work.

In July, we will again have the opportunity to host the National Convention, which will be held at Disney’s Coronado Springs. The convention will be early in the month, and as always we will need your support to make it successful.

This year, due to the closing of Le Cordon Bleu, we will be taking the monthly meetings on the road. Thanks in advance to all the properties who have made a commitment to be a meeting host. In addition to going on the road, we are working on a schedule of educational and informative seminars. If you have a subject that you would like to see presented, please feel free to contact me. We still have a number of open months on the calendar.

Last but not least, I want to personally thank the members of the Board of Directors, our chapter members, our supporting vendors, and all our Professional and student volunteers who have chipped in to ensure that our meetings and our community involvement projects are successful. I know it may sound a little corny, “but, it takes a village”.

Here are two things to remember as 2016 draws to a close:
2) Keep Saturday, January 28th reserved for our annual President’s Gala – this is a revised date, official invitations coming soon.
3) Mark your calendar for the first general chapter meeting of 2017 – February 6th at Mid Florida Tech.

Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you at our monthly gatherings.
Stay safe,

Chef Roger
President
ACF Central Florida Chapter

  1. I will be attending The NAFEM show in Orlando Feb 8-11, 2017
I have a group 8-10 people and we are looking for a farm to table restaurant recommendation for dinner or a chefs table tasting menu for the group possibly paired with wine.

Thanks, Chef, Glenn Pruden CEC, AAC
