2014 ACF Culinary Arts Competition Wrap-Up

Hello Chefs!

Joe-Alfano-300x284Another successful Culinary Arts Competition is behind us and it could not have been a success without the support of countless hours of volunteering from many people. A special thank you goes out to Chef Steve Jayson, Culinary Show Chairman and his team from Universal and Jim Kennedy for overseeing the competition kitchen, the scoring team of Roger Newell, Bob Costello, and Bryan Frick, Richard Cote for making sure that the tasting judges were taken care of, Dawn Viola for coordinating all the volunteers, Roy Briggs and Marcus Herrington for managing the ACF/CFC booth, and all of the ACF/CFC Board members for their help. A special thanks to the numerous students from Le Cordon Bleu and Second Harvest Food Bank for their volunteerism.

Our congratulations go out to all of the individual and team competitors. The top three winners in each category were:

USA Culinary Cup Challenge:
1st Place Gold Medal: Team Charlotte
2nd Place Gold Medal: Team Universal Orlando
3rd Place Silver Medal: Oregon Coast Culinary Institute

Florida Dept of Agriculture Shrimp Signature Recipe Competition:
1st Place Gold Medal: Michael Priola, CEC, AAC
2nd Place Silver Medal: Juan Cruz
3rd Place Silver Medal: Tyler Field, CEC

Taste of Elegance Pork Signature Recipe Competition:
1st Place Gold Medal: Raul Gonzalez

3rd Place Silver Medal: Brian Moll

Florida Pastry Challenge – Student Category:
1st Place Silver Medal: Nely Santiago
2nd Place Silver Medal: Angela Messer

Florida Pastry Challenge – Professional Category:
1st Place Gold Medal: Denise Elliot
2nd Place Bronze Medal: Tim Blouin
3rd Place Bronze Medal: Rodrigo Nunez

R.L. Schreiber Student/Jr Member Team Skills Competition:
1st Place Silver Medal: Le Cordon Bleu Miami
2nd Place Silver Medal: Universal Orlando
3rd Place Silver Medal: Le Cordon Bleu Atlanta

Don’t miss our next meeting on Monday, October 6th at Le Cordon Bleu starting at 6:30pm. Three great chefs will be demonstrating “Sweet to Savory” applications with Pavoni molds.

Also, start thinking about who you would like to nominate for the annual Chapter Awards: Chapter Chef of the Year and Achievement in Culinary Excellence. The criteria and nomination forms are posted on the website at: Chef of the Year and Achievement in Culinary Excellence.
